Preliminary Study on Information Presentation to Promote Healthy Behavior in Individuals with a Strong Tendency to Procrastinate due to Present Bias -- A Use Case of Weight Management --

(in English) People with a strong tendency for present bias, which leads to procrastination, tend to experience health-related issues such as higher obesity and smoking rates. It is crucial to identify effective designs that encourage them to choose proactive health behaviors.
In this study, we explored multiple UI designs considering the characteristics of individuals with a strong present bias, utilizing weight management as a use case. Subsequently, we designed and developed a smartphone app aimed at promoting health behaviors by incorporating these UI designs.
We conducted an experiment in which a total of 40 people, both with strong and weak present bias, used the app for a month. We then analyzed the quantitative changes in the collected data and conducted post-experiment interviews to determine which UI designs were effective in changing the consciousness and behavior of people with a strong tendency for present bias.
