A basic study on human re-identification using 3D point cloud data focusing on body shape characteristics

(in English) At indoor events, it is useful to be able to analyze the paths taken by people in order to design appropriate booth layouts. However, the analysis of the movement paths of individual persons has generally been performed using cameras, but from the standpoint of privacy protection, it is necessary to perform processing to prevent the identification of individuals. As a technology to solve such problems, we focused on the tracking of a person's movement path using LiDAR. In order to estimate the path taken by a person in a situation where the trajectory is not sufficiently available, this study presents a basic study of features and a classification decision method for identifying the same person from point cloud data. For the classification decision method, unsupervised learning was examined, in which features extracted from point cloud data of a person are used as feature vectors, and the Manhattan distance between the feature vectors is used as the similarity to identify the same person. The precision and recall rates were 0.56 and 0.41, respectively. The challenge is to achieve sufficient noise reduction from the extracted point cloud of persons.
