In Japan, with declining and aging farmers, smart agriculture for efficient land management is gaining attention. However, challenges in rural areas with poor communication infrastructure exist for installation. This study proposes an off-grid smart agriculture system using low Earth orbit satellite communication and solar power. Installing these devices on farmlands enables off-grid smart agriculture. The system sends farmland data to a remote digital twin, optimizing information for feedback, achieving remote farming. Tested this system at Tokyo Tech’s Suzukakedai Campus, it confirmed its sufficient performance for remote farming in terms of throughput, latency, power generation, consumption, and application. |
