In this paper, we propose a new structure of circularly polarized wideband filtering antenna (filtenna) that realizes a very flat in-band gain and unidirectional radiation pattern in 20% fractional bandwidth. In conventional works, a wideband circularly polarized filtenna with 27.8% bandwidth has been developed by combining a dielectric resonator antenna and a circular patch coupler. However, it has not been clarified yet how to design such an antenna under a given bandwidth. In addition, it is difficult to improve frequency selectivity using multiple resonators like a bandpass filter (BPF) because multiple resonators cannot be implemented in the antenna structure. This paper proposes a new circularly polarized wideband filtenna structure, which can be designed from the circuit synthesis of transmission-line type BPF with power dividers. As an example, a 4-GHz band circularly polarized filtering antenna with 20% bandwidth is designed and tested. Its effectiveness is demonstrated through measurements of reflection and radiation characteristics for the fabricated filtenna. |
