To reduce beam search time, this report proposes a novel beam search scheme using discrete subcarrier placement and fast beam steering. Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (Massive MIMO) with multiple antenna elements improves the gain of user equipment (UE) by beamforming. However, the beam search time increases as the number of beam candidates increases. The authors have proposed a beam search scheme using fast beam steering with a fast phase shifter applied to the synchronization signal block. This report proposes a beam search scheme in which control signals for beam search are discretely placed on subcarriers, and fast beam steering is performed according to the periodicity of the time signal within a symbol. By placing control signals on subcarriers for each number of beams, a periodic signal for each number of beams is generated within a symbol. The proposed scheme assigns a different beam to each of the periodic signals and performs fast beam steering within a symbol to achieve short-time beam search. Computer simulation results show that the discrete subcarrier beam search scheme reduces the Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio (ACLR). |
