Quadrature amplitude modulation / coherent detection systems are being considered for use in datacenters. However, the expensive components in these systems make them less feasible for cost-sensitive datacenters. This inspires us to devise a solution to improve tolerance of impairments caused by using low-cost but low-performance components. We propose a digital coherent receiver based on neural networks that improves tolerance of quantization noise and IQ phase imbalance that originate from a low-cost transmitter. Its effectiveness is clearly demonstrated through simulations and experiments. |
