Comparison of Recording Characteristics of Sputtered Media for Magnetic Tape using Tape Heads and HDD Heads

(in English) We investigated recording characteristics by simulation, assuming sputtered magnetic tape media and single-pole type (SPT) heads for HDD, which are expected to be introduced in future magnetic tape systems. It was found that a soft magnetic underlayer (SUL) is necessary to avoid deterioration of the recording current characteristics, and that the media SNR improves even if the spacing between the head media is large for media with SUL. In addition, when SUL is added to SPT head (HDD head), it was found that changes in SUL thickness and saturation magnetic flux density have little effect on recording density characteristics (Roll-Off characteristics).
