Experiments on Time Synchronization Methods in Distributed Antenna Systems Using A-RoF Transmission

(in English) High-Speed and broadband network transformation is needed for sixth-generation wireless technology (6G) era, it is necessary to utilize high-frequency bands such as millimeter / sub-terahertz wave bands. The high linearity of radio waves in the high-frequency band has a significant impact due to shielding, and communication breakdowns occur due to various shielding objects, including the human body. Therefore, to ensure an uninterrupted communication environment, it is necessary to redundancy of communication paths by using a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) that places a large number of antennas at high density. In the conventional configuration where many wireless base stations are arranged, there is a concern about the increase in power consumption, so it is required to realize a small and low power consumption by the configuration of a simple overhanging antenna device (RRU: Remote Radio Unit). A method to realize the simple RRU configuration, analog radio over fiber (A-RoF) is a very promising technology. On the other hand, it is difficult to apply the simple RRU in the A-RoF configuration to the time synchronization (T-Sync) system, and the establishment of technology is desired. In this paper, we compare three patterns of T-Sync methods in the A-RoF system, and report that the direct optical signal return method can realize the most accurate T-Sync when internal processing delay correction is not performed.
