A Discriminator for Calcification Regions detector in Dental Panoramic Radiographs

(in English) As arteriosclerosis progresses, calcification regions may be observed in the carotid arteries on dental panoramic radiographs. Detection of these calcification regions can reduce the occurrence of sudden vascular disorders by prompting patients to consult a physician. For this purpose, an automatic detection method using a detector that combines a segmentation model and a discriminator in serial has been proposed. This detector uses TransCaraNet for semantic segmentation and Res2Net for discrimination. However, since this problem is an identification problem, such as the presence or absence of calcification regions, there may be no need to use a large discriminator model such as Res2Net, and it should be possible to reduce the model's size while maintaining accuracy. Therefore, to reduce the computational complexity while maintaining identification performance as much as possible, we propose the replacement of Res2Net with a less computationally intensive network than Res2Net for the discriminator. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by using actual data.
