[Invited Lecture] A Study on Optimization of Antenna Array Configuration for Orthogonal Directional MIMO Transmission

(in English) MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) transmission technology enables multiplex communication using multiple transmitting and receiving antennas at the same time and frequency and can improve communication channel capacity.
However, when more antenna elements are placed in a limited space of the transmitter and receiver, the MIMO channel capacity degrades because the spacing between antenna elements becomes narrower, and spatial correlation increases.
The authors have proposed an orthogonal directional MIMO transmission using a dipole antenna array configuration with different element lengths to reduce spatial correlation and prevent channel capacity degradation.
In this report, we analyze the average channel capacity characteristics of the proposed antenna array configuration, assuming eigen-mode MIMO transmission and reception with a Rice fading channel environment.
From the numerical analysis results, we confirmed that the proposed antenna array configuration achieves a 1.5 times larger average channel capacity than the conventional configuration with the same element length.
