Heterogeneous networks (HetNets) with picocells operating at millimeter wave (mmWave) band provide higher system capacity and user throughput because of the enormous amount of signal bandwidth. However, it is important for picocells to compensate for the path-loss on mmWave. 3D-BF is a promising technique to improve the received SINR of target user terminal (UE). The sectorization of picocells is well-known to increase the received SINR of UE as well as the increase of system capacity. Recently, prototype twelve-sector antennas operating at 28 GHz band are reported. However, the relationship and/or tradeoff between the number of Tx beams in 3D-BF per sector, and the number of picocell-sectors has not been evaluated. This paper provides the performance of HetNet composed of mmWave twelve-sector picocells equipped with 3D-BF. Using system-level computer simulations, the average and 5-percentile user throughput are clarified as parameters of the number of Tx beams used in 3D-BF and the number of picocell-sectors. |
