Inter-Network Interference Coordination Using Protected Band in Co-existing Networks with HAPS and Terrestrial BSs

(in English) In this paper, we propose an inter-network interference coordination method using protected bands in the downlink of a network where high altitude platform station (HAPS) and terrestrial base stations (TBSs) coexist. When HAPS and TBS share the same transmission bandwidth, interference between HAPS and TBS degrades the throughput for users especially at cell edges. When overall system bandwidth is divided into non-overlapped two bands and HAPS and TBS use each of these bands, inter-network interference is avoided. However, the transmission bandwidth used at HAPS and TBS is reduced which degrades the throughput of cell-interior users. To address the problem, the proposed method divides the overall system bandwidth into three parts; first one is shared band used by both HAPS and TBS and the other two bands are protected bands for HAPS and TBS. By lowering the transmission power at the protected band of other base station, inter-network interference at the protected band of target base station is improved while the bandwidth loss in the conventional methos is avoided. We quantitatively demonstrate the improvement in system throughput achieved by the proposed method through computer simulations.
