In this paper, we propose a novel precoder design for time-varying millimeter-wave (mmWave) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) detection via expectation propagation (EP). In mmWave wireless channels, even millisecond-scale fluctuations in the surrounding environment can significantly vary the channel state, which leads to the mismatch between the beam and the actual channel, deteriorating the communication quality. Assuming the use of the EP-based iterative detector to suppress interference components caused by this channel aging phenomenon, we aim to design a precoder that can maximize its detection performance by taking advantage of the characteristics of the iterative detector. In this paper, precoders imposing a certain non-uniformity among the MIMO spatial multiplexing streams are numerically shown to minimize the bit-error-rate (BER). We first hypothetically attribute the cause of this observation to the improvement in detection accuracy in the early iterations achieved by the non-uniformity, and then quantitatively evaluate it to discuss the appropriate criteria for the precoder design. Finally, the validity and efficacy of the proposed scheme were confirmed through numerical simulations. |
