[Invited Lecture] Throughput Analysis and Maximization of Grant-Free Power-Domain Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper introduces an analytical framework for grant-free power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (called GF-NOMA) in the massive machine-type communications (MTC).
GF-NOMA has a pre-defined set of power levels designed by guaranteeing a high signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) enough to decode a packet in each iteration in the successive interference cancellation (SIC).
Each device selects a power level from the set and sets to its transmission power by textit{channel inversion}.
Given multiple packets arrive at a power level at a time-frequency resource, called a power collision, the GF-NOMA experiences packet errors at this power level and others due to the non-orthogonality.
The author proposed an analytical model for GF-NOMA focusing on power collisions and optimizes the selection strategy of power levels by this model.
The proposed model has two key ideas.
The first idea is to model the average packet arrival rate or offered load per level (defined as per-level offered load) to provide packet errors.
The second idea is to model the per-level offered load based on user-specific properties, like the channel and maximum transmission power of each user, by using stochastic geometry.
The optimization results on the proposed model highlighted that the optimal selection strategy achieved 20% higher throughput than the random selection strategy.
