(in English) Radio over Fiver (RoF) systems have attracted attention due to the increasing demand for high-speed and large-capacity communications. An optical modulator that modulates light with received radio waves is indispensable for RoF, and we describe the design and fabrication of an antenna-integrated five-layer asymmetric quantum well (FACQW) optical modulator applicable to RoF. This optical modulator takes advantage of the high electrorefractive index change due to the quantum confined stark effect(QCSE). We designed a circular patch antenna, which is a new antenna structure, and the measurement results show that about 55.0 dB CSR (3.56 mrad of phase modulation) was obtained when irradiated with radio waves of P=4.4 W/m2 and f=60 GHz, which is the first operational demonstration of a quantum well optical modulator with a circular patch antenna .
