Quantum key distribution can establish cryptographic keys securely against all physically possible attacks, but it is relatively difficult to maintain a sufficient key generation rate over long distances due to the large signal attenuation. As a countermeasure, a post-selection method, which eliminates bits with high error probability in a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment, is known. However, in conventional information reconciliation methods using block codes, the entire signal processing including post-selection is performed with hard value instead of soft value, which limits error correction capability. In this paper, we propose an information reconciliation system for continuous-variable quantum key distribution that combines Raptor codes and post-selection to further improve error correction capability. By using Raptor codes, which are rateless codes, both post-selection and soft-valued decoding can be realized. We evaluate the proposed method by numerical simulations and show that it has excellent properties even in the lower SNR region. |
