Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) photodiode with periodic metal diffraction grating can obtain a high light sensitivity for a specific condition of incident light due to the efficient coupling of the diffracted light to the SOI waveguiding mode. By appropriately designing the device structure, the photodetector with the selectivities for wavelength, incident angle, and polarization can be developed. In this report, the enhancement effect of the light sensitivity of silicon wire photodiode by metallic diffraction grating is discussed from the simulated results based on finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, and then the characteristics are clarified. |
