[Invited Talk] Development of Information-Centric Service Mesh using NDN and Application to Content Search in IPFS

(in English) In recent years, the research and development of Beyond 5G (B5G), the next generation of mobile communications, have been progressing, and B5G is expected to be a core technology for solving social issues and achieving economic growth. One functionality required in B5G is autonomous networking. To achieve this, a system where devices autonomously collaborate is necessary, and network management and control for this purpose are required. We have proposed an information-centric service mesh (IC-SM) that introduces dynamic name-based routing into service mesh, one of the core technologies of cloud-native architecture.
In this paper, we propose a sidecar architecture for IC-SM that supports various services. The proposed architecture introduces a Controller that manages services on the service mesh and an Adapter that acts as a proxy for the services. Translating the request formats used by the services into information-centric networking (ICN) format allows services to be integrated into IC-SM without being aware of ICN communications. Furthermore, through simulations assuming InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) as a service, we confirmed that executing services on IC-SM utilizing ICN can speed up communications and improve service performance.
