In recent years, the research and development of Beyond 5G (B5G), the next generation of mobile communications, have been progressing, and B5G is expected to be a core technology for solving social issues and achieving economic growth. One functionality required in B5G is autonomous networking. To achieve this, a system where devices autonomously collaborate is necessary, and network management and control for this purpose are required. We have proposed an information-centric service mesh (IC-SM) that introduces dynamic name-based routing into service mesh, one of the core technologies of cloud-native architecture.
In this paper, we propose a sidecar architecture for IC-SM that supports various services. The proposed architecture introduces a Controller that manages services on the service mesh and an Adapter that acts as a proxy for the services. Translating the request formats used by the services into information-centric networking (ICN) format allows services to be integrated into IC-SM without being aware of ICN communications. Furthermore, through simulations assuming InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) as a service, we confirmed that executing services on IC-SM utilizing ICN can speed up communications and improve service performance. |
