An electromagnetic band gap structure (EBG) was proposed to prevent leakage of electromagnetic waves when snow is taken into the device for melted using microwaves, and at the same time, when snow and the melted wastewater pass through the device. Measurements results showed that snow was melted by microwaves radiated in the waveguide while the EBGs reduced the radio wave leakage from the waveguide when snow and EBGs were installed in the waveguide. On the other hand, the EBG designed with air as the medium also changes the frequency at which the band gap occurs by changing the medium to snow or water. In this study, the effects of snow and drainage water in the device on the characteristics were investigated by simulation using FDTD. The results show that when the EBG is filled with water, no bandgap structure occurs. However, the level of leaked electromagnetic waves does not increase due to the high loss of water to electromagnetic waves. On the other hand, when the EBGs are filled with snow between the EBGs, it was revealed that the change in band gap frequency slightly affects the characteristics. |
