In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT), new wireless access technologies are required to efficiently manage the massive amount of data transmissions from numerous wireless devices at base stations. Moreover, with the spread of real-time control devices such as autonomous vehicles, there is a need not only for massive connections but also for low-latency communications. For this reason, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has worked on the development of a wireless communication system that adopts uplink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) for massive connections and Configured Grant (CG) for low latency to achieve both. NICT has named this system STABLE (Simultaneous Transmission Access Boosting Low latEncy) and advanced its research and development as NR-STABLE, which is compatible with 5G NR (New Radio). To demonstrate the actual devices of NR-STABLE, NICT, ABIT Corporation and Magna Wireless Corporation have been jointly developing these prototypes that operates on local 5G. In this paper, we introduce the features and the latest research and development status of NR-STABLE. |
