The TCP congestion control algorithm controls the congestion window size based on packet loss, delay, or a com- bination of both obtained at the transport layer, enabling rate control that takes network congestion conditions into account. Meanwhile, other layers may implement rate control depending on the communication environment. On the other hand, wireless LANs, which are used by a variety of terminals including smartphones, have transmission rate control mechanisms such as Auto Rate Fallback (ARF) at the data link layer. Since congestion control at the transport layer and rate control at the data link layer operate independently, excessive control at either layer can degrade communication performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a TCP congestion control method that works in conjunction with rate control at the wireless LAN interface. The proposed method aims to achieve congestion control that can quickly adapt to the available transmission capacity by appropriately controlling the transport layer congestion window in response to changes in the rate of the wireless LAN interface. In this paper, we implement the proposed method in TCP CUBIC and evaluate its effectiveness using the network simulator ns-3. |
