Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) mmWave and THz communications utilize narrow, highly directional beams ranging from a few centimeters to over a meter wide, leading to ultra-high-speed communication zones. In UAV-UAV communications, predicting the location and direction of these ultra-high-speed areas, known as ultra-spots, is crucial for in-flight UAVs. This capability enables the UAV to adjust its route, altitude, attitude, and velocity to maximize the probability of successful communication. This paper introduces a novel method for proactively detecting ultra-spots using joint phase and RSSI measurements from multiple Wireless Two-way Interferometry devices (multi-Wi-Wi) mounted on an in-flight UAV. We conduct real-world UAV-UAV communication experiments and utilize the experimental data to validate the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) algorithm, which leverages multi-Wi-Wi's RSSI measurements from in-flight UAV and fingerprints matching algorithm, successfully estimates the likelihood of probable ultra-spot locations. Furthermore, our proposed joint phase-RSSI measurements of multi-Wi-Wi, which exploit phase variation values in addition to RSSI values from multi-Wi-Wi for multi-spot detection, achieve a detection accuracy of approximately 37 cm. This finding demonstrates the feasibility of in-flight UAVs predicting the locations of mmWave ultra-spots in beam space.
