[Short Paper] A Study on Random Walk SGD for Fault-Tolerance Decentralized Federated Learning

(in English) Random walk stochastic gradient descent (RWSGD) is an optimization algorithm for communication-efficient decentralized federated learning (DFL). Although it can reduce the communication overhead in the DFL, its delay performance is often affected by a failure of a training node. In this study, we propose an improved RWSGD, which detects and avoids failed nodes by using box-and-whisker diagram-based outlier detection for the computation time of nodes. Numerical results in an image classification task shows that our method can suppress training delays caused by node failures.
