Non-contact voltage sensing is a measurement method that observes the AC voltage applied to a cable conductor, without connecting probe electrodes to the conductor from above the cable insulation. By achieving flat amplitude and phase frequency characteristics, it can be utilized for measuring wideband noise in the EMC field, communication signals, etc. This paper shows that the dielectric relaxation of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), widely used for cable insulation, introduces measurement errors. Furthermore, we propose a snubber-type dielectric relaxation compensation to mitigate these errors. |
