This paper proposes a joint design of linear equalization and beamforming for single-carrier transmission to combat both frequency selective fading and severe path loss effects in sub-terahertz (THz) communications systems. The joint design is formulated as a minimum mean square error (MMSE) problem to minimize the bit error rate (BER), which is effectively solved using matrix fractional programming (FP). Furthermore, we theoretically analyze the relationship between the MMSE and BER in the proposed method, which proves that our joint design achieves superior performance to conventional separate designs. Numerical results confirm that the proposed approach achieves lower BER than the conventional single-carrier (SC) transmission with a separately designed equalizer and beamformer and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission. |
