Performance Evaluation of In-Metal-Pipe Wireless Communication for Network Construction

(in English) In the work site, the utilization of IoT equipment is increasing due to the effect of the progress of digitization, and the need for a wireless LAN environment is increasing. In particular, the demand for wireless LAN is increasing in network construction within buildings due to its low laying and operational costs. However, it is difficult for a single access point to cover the entire indoor area with wireless communication due to the buildings structure or wall’s obstructions. Therefore, we focus on the metal pipes laid throughout the building and aim to utilize them as radio propagation paths to build a wireless LAN network. By the development of this system, it is expected that the network construction in the building will be simple, and the expansion of the wireless LAN network will be possible. In-metal-pipe communication can have different communication characteristics compared to open space because of reflection and diffraction, so a detailed communication performance evaluation is necessary. Therefore, in this paper, we evaluated the communication performance of IEEE802.11ax wireless LAN in-metal-pipe through simulations and real machine experiments. Depending on the communication range, this network also envisioned effective transmission through a multi-hop wireless network.
