A five-year project of monitoring EMF exposure levels in Japan was conducted. EMF from mobile phone base stations and broadcasting towers were measured both indoors and outdoors using various methods. The exposure levels from the base stations outdoors were confirmed to be low (approximately 1/1000 or less) compared to the radio radiation protection guidelines, although the exposure levels from the base stations have been on an increasing trend compared to approximately 15 years ago. The results of measurements at 5G (FR1/FR2) base stations while downloading data to a terminal showed that the EMF exposure levels were equivalent to or lower than those from 3G/4G base stations. The results showed that EMF from the base stations were less than or equal to those from conventional base stations. On the other hand, it was found that not only the base stations but also wireless LAN were one of the main sources inside residences. Measurements were also taken in school classrooms, and it was found that even when PCs were used in class, the levels were similar to those in residences. Furthermore, measurements were conducted using a car over a total distance of approximately 39,000 km in Japan. The results showed that there is a positive proportional relationship between electric field strength and the power of population density. |
