Magnetic pulse welding of sheet metals is carried out by flowing the pulse large current from a capacitor bank to the narrow central part of a flat coil, and rapidly applying high-density magnetic flux to sheet metals. The sheet metals with a gap are placed on the coil and are welded by high-speed collision. When the 20-turn coil is used, the maximum discharge current required for welding will be reduced to approximately 8 kA. In this report, the number of coil turns is chosen to be 10 and 20, respectively, for the bank capacity during discharge of 6 and 1.5μF. Such combinations (bank capacity and number of turns) are electromagnetically equivalent combinations, and the current waveform and generated magnetic flux density are almost the same. The sheet metals can be welded in the same way if conditions are selected. From the experimental results of Al/Cu sheets using the 10-tu-rn coil, it is possible to simulate the results using the 20-turn coil. Based on the simulation results, we propose magnetic pulse welding method for Al/Cu sheets using the 20-turn coil and thyristor switches. Next, considered the switch products you will use. |
