With the evolution and widespread adoption of lighting technology in the 21st century, wireless communication technologies based on visible light have rapidly developed. Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology uses light as the carrier for information transmission and receives the data through photosensitive devices such as photodiodes and image sensors. This article focuses on VLC using image sensors and explains a communication method based on the trajectory of light (light trail). When the light source moves during the exposure, the light continuously projects along its path onto the image sensor, creating light trails in the captured image. In this paper, we describe the generation, transmission, detection, and demodulation methods of light trail signals in VLC systems, as well as the benefits of using them. Specifically, we focus on VLC using two types of light trails: linear and circular, and explain their respective characteristics. Furthermore, we introduce practical usage scenarios for the prospects of light trail VLC technology and demonstrate its potential for practical applications. |
