Synthetic aperture radar (SAR), which can be observed regardless of day and weather conditions, is crucial in assessing damage situations during large-scale disasters. For quantitative evaluation of building and infrastructure collapse using SAR, polarization-based observations are effective. While SAR offers four polarization modes, there is a trade-off between target information and observation width compared to single or dual polarization. In this study, to achieve both target information and wide observation width, we adopted dual polarization using circular polarization. We conducted development and evaluation experiments of ground-based SAR equipped with K-band (24 GHz) circular polarization antennas. In the evaluation experiments, we installed four types of reflectors and acquired their scattering matrices. We were able to obtain results similar to those of ideal circular polarization bases in the scattering matrix during the evaluation experiments. |
