With the recent development of radar and wireless communications, wideband dual linear polarized phased array antennas are required. In this paper, we propose a subarray antenna element for phased array antennas, in which cavity-backed patch antennas are fed by distribution circuits composed of suspended stliplines. The proposed antenna has a lower profile and fewer components than conventional antennas using open-ended square waveguide. Electromagnetic field analysis confirms the effectiveness of the proposed antenna, as it has a wide bandwidth of more than 12% of the desired specific bandwidth, a low cross-polarization characteristic of less than -41 dB, and a high radiation efficiency of more than 92%. |
