Verification of Scaling Relations for Block Propagation Time and Fork Probability Using SimBlock

(in English) Blockchain is recognized for its lower transaction processing performance relative to centralized payment systems. Additionally, blockchain is susceptible to the risk of previously approved transactions becoming invalid due to forks. These issues have been rigorously examined in academic discourse through the application of mathematical models. Among these investigations, Fujihara derived a scaling relation for block propagation time and fork probability. He further demonstrated
that the probability distribution of block propagation time conforms to a Gumbel distribution. However, these findings have not been thoroughly validated through numerical simulations. This paper employs SimBlock, a blockchain network simulator, to verify the validity of these theoretical results. The findings indicate that, despite some discrepancies in the scaling relation for block propagation time in the case of N=10 nodes, the scaling relations for block propagation time and fork probability, as well as the probability distribution of block propagation time adhering to a Gumbel distribution, are generally corroborated.
