Use of in-network cache for many-to-many file transfers with multiple multicast routes

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Our group have studied a one-to-many file transfer over a managed network with full-duplex links. In the one-to–
many file transfer called MPMC, the multicast transfer for multiple receivers is essential to efficiently use the link capacities
shared by different receivers, while the multipath transfer for a single receiver is essential to fully use the link capacities
for the same receiver. We developed Coded-MPMC by combining MPMC and sender-side coding, and derived an optimal
schedule by which every receiver’s file reception completion time is equal to its lower-bound. For realistic operations in which
multiple one-to-many file transfers run in parallel, we developed Coded-MPMC many-to-many transfer. However, inter-sender
contention cannot essentially be resolved by sender-side coding. In this report, to mitigate the contention, we incorporate the
”rewriting” function by which each transmitted data can be cached at a switch on the way and will be used to replace another
data later at the same switch as needed. We examine how to generate a schedule with rewriting. Through simulation evaluation,
it was shown that, if the sender’s priority was absolutely applied, the average performance was good but the performance
balance among senders was poor. Therefore, we proposed a scheduling method that emphasizes balance among senders at the
expense of some average performance, and the effectiveness of the rewriting function was demonstrated.
