Conversational Agent that Empathizes with Unspoken Emotions

(in English) In the field of Human-Agent Interaction (HAI), many studies have examined various interaction designs. The impact of large language models, which have seen significant advancements recently, is also substantial in the HAI domain. Especially, increasing feasible interaction designs using natural language have been proposed. This study examines interactions where agents use natural language but humans interacting with the agents do not use natural language. Specifically, this study aims to construct an interaction system where humans express their emotions non-verbally, and agents equipped with large language models respond to it verbally. For example, the study considers a system where humans draw circles on an interface to express their emotions, and a model predicts the emotions based on the features of the circles, and generates the words for the human. The study then discusses this novel interaction design by comparing to previous interaction designs.
