Evaluation of Electromagnetic Noise Emitted from Electronic Circuits in Industrial Drones and its Interference on GPS

(in English) In recent years, autonomous vehicles have been developed, and drones are rapidly becoming more popular.
However, there are issues that compromise the safety of drone operations, and one of these is electromagnetic interference
between communication signals and electromagnetic noise from electronic circuits mounted inside the drone. As drones become
increasingly compact, the electronic circuits and wireless communication antennas are placed in close proximity to each other,
which can easily cause electromagnetic interference, and it may degrade the quality of wireless communication. In this study,
we focus on GPS (Global Positioning System), one of the wireless communications commonly used for drones, and evaluated
the interference between drone noise and GPS signals. We constructed the hardware measurement setup using a GPS receiver
module and the simulation setup using the GPS system simulation. Using these setups, we evaluated the effect of electromagnetic
noise and confirmed 10 dB degradation of GPS receiving sensitivity for the GPS receiver module and 6 dB degradation for the
simulation. This indicates that electromagnetic interference caused by electromagnetic noise from drones may degrade the
accuracy of GPS positioning measurements.
