Optical fibers having multi cores in one fiber have been paid considerable attention. Improving optical properties is one effective approach to promote practical use of the multi-core fibers. Among, loss reduction and increasing density are two important directions to improve the performances of multi-core fibers. For the reduction of the loss, it is important to apply the well-established fiber process technologies which have been sophisticated for conventional 1-core fibers by fiber manufacturers. Furthermore, to achieve the ultra-low loss, it is important to apply pure silica core structure. On the other hand, it is also important to increase the density of the fiber as well and trench-assisted profiles have been investigated. To realize higher-density, it is preferable to apply air-induced structures. This time, we will report these investigations. |
