[Invited Talk] Oscillation Spectrum of Harmonically Mode-Locked Fiber Laser Utilizing Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

(in English) The output pulse stream from harmonically mode-locked fiber lasers can exhibit amplitude fluctuations, known as supermode noise, which are caused by competition between oscillating mode groups. In this paper, the author presents the results of an experimental investigation into the oscillation spectrum of a harmonically mode-locked fiber laser incorporating a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) within the laser cavity at the aim of suppressing supermode noise. After a review of the principles of the laser system utilized in the experiments, the author demonstrates that the use of the SOA successfully stabilized the pulse amplitude; however, despite the use of an electrical phase-locked loop, the oscillation spectrum could not be fixed. Additionally, it was observed that the spectral width of the laser output was narrower than anticipated. To further enhance the oscillation spectrum, it is essential to align the modulation frequency with the gain ripple of the SOA.
