Conventional electronic circuits rely on electrons as information carriers, whereas optical analog circuits currently under development utilize photons instead. Optical analog computing is a promising approach for low-latency and low-power computations such as vector-matrix multiplications. However, since signal amplification in optical analog circuits entails additive noise, we need to consider the effect of the noise for the computation with optical analog circuits. This study explores image restoration using total variation regularization via optical analog circuits. Specifically, we design the circuit structure for the image restoration with alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Through computer simulations, we show that the noise in the image can be eliminated to some extent, even when the circuit noise at the amplifier is taken into account. |
