Long-haul transmission systems with a use of high-symbol-rate signals suffer from equalization-enhanced phase noise (EEPN), which is the interaction between chromatic dispersion (CD) and phase noise of local oscillations (LO). This is due to the difficulty of LO phase estimation before CD compensation. In this paper, we propose a method to inhibit the occurrence of EEPN. Our approach estimates LO phase before compensating for CD by LO phase isolation using dual pilot carriers. We confirm through simulations that the penalty due to EEPN is significantly reduced in communication systems above 100 Gbaud. |
