We have recently proposed a multi-layered network architecture consisting of optical cross connects (OXCs) with multiple routing granularities. Different from conventional optical networks with path hierarchy, layers are connected with inter-node fibers. This inter-layer connection enables to mitigate the transmission impairments as the number of devices traversed by a path will not be changed by the detouring to coarse granularity layers. In this paper, we adopt waveband cross connect (WBXC) and spatial-channel cross connect (SXC) for coarse-granularity routing. In addition, our updated algorithm improves the efficiency of routing and wavelength assignment in dynamic control scenarios. Simulations show that the performance degradation caused by the introduction of coarse granularity routing is limited to 5% compared to the conventional wavelength cross connect (WXC)-based network. |
