To realize analog compressed sensing, we consider the implementation of the proximal operator of the $ ell_1$-norm called soft thresholding function, which frequently appears in convex optimization algorithms based on proximal splitting for the $ell_1-ell_2$ optimization problem, and we propose to approximate the function using the voltage-current (V-I) characteristics of a PN-junction diode. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we apply the proposed approximate soft thresholding function using diodes to the iterative shrinkage thresholding algorithm (ISTA) and the fast ISTA (FISTA). Numerical experiments of the sparse signal reconstruction confirm that diode-ISTA and diode-FISTA can achieve comparable convergence performance to that of conventional ISTA and FISTA, respectively. Moreover, it is also confirmed that diode-ISTA and diode-FISTA can achieve a smaller steady-state mean squared error (MSE) compared to conventional ISTA and FISTA. |
