[Encouragement Talk] Improvement of RTT Fairness by BBR with Moderate Delivery Rate

(in English) BBR is a new TCP congestion control algorithm proposed by Google in 2016. Its original purpose is to operate at the ideal Kleinrock’s control point, but it has been reported that BBR fails to operate at this ideal point. Overestimation of estimated available bandwidth is the main reason for this behavior. We have proposed a new BBR modification, named BMR, which moderately regulates transmission rate in order to resolve this overestimation. BBR has also another technical problem, RTT fairness. The cause of RTT fairness is reported that stored packets at the bottleneck link depends on RTT of each bottleneck sharing flows. Our proposed BMR stores no queue at the bottleneck link because it can operate at the ideal control point. In this paper, we evaluate BMR from the viewpoint of RTT fairness. Our evaluation results show that flows with different RTTs have fair share throughput, which means BMR can resolve RTT fairness problem of BBR.
