(in English) Multiple data centers (DCs) distributed within a short distance region are increasingly interconnected via DCI (Data Center Interconnection) for the purpose of data center scale-up, data protection and load balancing. However, most DCs are concentrated in major cities, where there is a shortage of land and electric power supply to build new DCs. Therefore, DCI over medium-to-long distances of 100 km or more will be required for further scale-out. In order to realize such wide-area DCI, the network needs to be faster and have lower latency. IOWN APN [1] can be applied to improve the performance of the DCI itself, but it is also necessary to consider the protocol technologies/settings used on DCI such as RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access). RDMA is becoming increasingly important for intra- and inter-DC communications. However, since the technology was originally developed for short-range interconnections, the parameters of the RDMA Network Interface Card (RNIC) need to be properly configured for medium-to-long distance communications over 100 km. This paper shows the best practices for tuning parameters to maximize performance for medium-to-long distance RDMA.
