[Invited Lecture] Mobile Fronthaul over IOWN All-Photonics Network

(in English) NTT is considering the application of the IOWN All-Photonics Network (APN) to Mobile Fronthaul (MFH). MFH is an interface that connects the antenna-side equipment (RU) and the control-side equipment (DU) of mobile base stations, requiring high capacity and low latency. By applying APN, which enables high-capacity and low-latency transmission, it is possible to share optical fibers connecting RUs and Dus, and effectively aggregate a large number of RUs distributed over a wide area into a single DU. Furthermore, the dynamic control of paths by APN in response to network traffic conditions enables the centralization and deactivation of DU resources, leading to reduced power consumption. This paper introduces the effects of applying APN to MFH, demonstration examples, and future prospects for its widespread adoption.
