The construction of the Chuo Shinkansen, a maglev train, is progressing with the goal of commencing operations in 2027. In order to provide 5GNR inside such ultra-high-speed trains, it is necessary to establish coverage along the railway route. However, since the train is expected to travel at approximately 500 km/h, the Doppler frequency shift at radio frequencies cannot be ignored.
In 5G NR, phase correction methods using PT-RS (Phase Tracking Reference Signal) are employed to compensate for Doppler shifts. Although this PT-RS is frequently acquired for correction, it is considered insufficient to correct for each wireless frame in an ultra-high-speed train traveling at 500 km/h.
In this study, we aim to provide 5G NR for ultra-high-speed trains, focusing particularly on the Doppler frequency shift. Based on 3GPP standards, we evaluated the impact of Doppler shifts in 5G NR through simulations, which will be reported in this presentation. |
