In wireless communication, a received level has a large effect on the speed and quality of communications. Furthermore, in mobile communications, the received level estimation provides useful information for base station installation and link designs, service area maintenance and management, adaptive modulation transmission, handover, and so on. In this report, with the aim of improving the efficiency of the service area maintenance and management, kriging, known as a stochastic spatial interpolation method, was used to estimate short-term average values of received levels in multiple urban environments with different structures (Kitakyushu-shi and Narashino-shi), and a multifaceted evaluation of the effectiveness of the kriging was conducted. The results showed that the estimations in both cities could be performed with a root-mean-square error of less than 4 dB using a relatively small number of reference points. |
