Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Many landslides have occurred due to heavy rains and typhoons, causing extensive damage.
In addition, many human casualties have occurred due to delays in evacuation.
Early evacuation of residents is essential to prevent human casualties.
A sensor network that transmits information sensed in mountainous areas to base stations in residential areas using 920 MHz radio waves is being studied.
In this study, we investigated the effect of terrain shielding the Fresnel zone in mountainous areas on 920 MHz band radio propagation by transmitting radio waves from the mountainous areas and measuring propagation loss at two receivers located on the Hiroshima City University campus.
The propagation loss of the 920 MHz band radio wave from mountainous areas was calculated, and the characteristics of the propagation loss were evaluated considering the topography and Fresnel zone between the transmitter and receiver.
The measurement results show an increase in propagation loss when terrain is included within a zone less than 0.6 times the first Fresnel radius on the propagation path, compared to when no terrain is included within it.
The propagation loss was also increased due to the influence of the topography and vegetation around the measurement location.
In particular, a difference of about 20~dB in propagation loss due to the topography and vegetation was observed near the mountain ridge.
