To realize the connected car systems, we are developing a 4 × 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna that can control not only the beam direction but also the ratio of the radiated vertical and horizontal polarization components depending on the incoming wave characteristics. This antenna has an angle-of-arrival (AOA) function that utilizes the radio frequency (RF)-based interferometric monopulse technique to estimate the direction of the communication target. In this paper, the accuracy of the estimated angle using the phase reversal weighting method is compared with that of the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) method, which is one of the high-resolution estimation methods. The analytical results show that it is possible to estimate the azimuth angle of the incoming wave with high accuracy using both methods, when the radio waves arrive from a low elevation angle, although the accuracy of the estimation angle varies depending on the elevation angle of the incoming wave. |
