This paper presents the enhancement of bandwidth of a single-layer dual-band wideband multi-ring microstrip antenna (MSA) fed by an L-probe with outer separated elements. The proposed antenna consists of two outer separated ring patches, an inner ring patch, and a feeding L-probe arranged on a single-layer dielectric substrate. A thick dielectric substrate with a relative dielectric constant of 2.6 and a thickness of 3.2 mm is used for wideband operation. In order to obtain dual-band and wideband performance with the two central frequency ratio of 1:1.39, the structural parameters of the proposed MSA are optimized by using the electromagnetic simulator ANSYS HFSS. The simulated results reveal that two frequency ranges with less than 10 dB reflection coefficient (S11) are from 8.48 GHz to 10.38 GHz and from 11.94 GHz to 14.34 GHz and that the corresponding fractional bandwidths are 20.1% around 9.5 GHz and 18.3% around 13 GHz, respectively. |
