In Beyond 5G/6G, mobile communication will expand beyond terrestrial cellular networks and wireless LANs to include non-terrestrial networks (NTN) such as satellites and drones for supporting mobile communication in any location. To achieve ultra-high-speed and large-capacity communication by maintaining spectrum resource, not only millimeter waves but also terahertz waves are being considered for use. Additionally, user communication demands are expected to diversify, ranging from ultra-reliable communication for autonomous driving to low-power, long-range communication required for IoT, as well as high-speed, large-capacity wireless communication for smart factories and private mobile communication systems. In this context of diverse use cases and spectrum sharing among systems, a major challenge is how to find the necessary spectrum for communication, select the frequencies and systems suitable for each service, and provide communication that meets user demand. It is essential to adaptively utilize the limited frequency resources according to the radio environment and user demands. Accurate recognizing the radio environment and finding frequency resources are required through spectrum sharing across various systems. This talk introduces the technologies for radio environment recognition and frequency sharing that are required in the Beyond 5G/6G era, and discuss future wireless communication systems that will be highly adaptive through data-driven approaches, including the use of machine learning. |
